Red-Green Images

A red-green image contains two views of a scene which have been colour-coded and merged into a single image. The resulting image gives the impression of blurred vision to the naked eye, but can be viewed with coloured glasses.

Two red-green images of the same drawing

The red-green images which I have created have been made with an experimantal technique which tries to preserve as much colour as possible from the original photograph (which would be fine, except that the original photographs haven't got much colour in them anyway!). Ideally a pair of glasses looking like this: should be used, but a pair of the more popular red-green glasses will also work. The stereo effect will look best if the glasses are such that the word "left" in the diagram is invisible when viewed through the right-hand filter, and vice versa.

The image on the left above was created from a brightly-coloured original. While some 3D effect is clearly visible when you view it through the coloured glasses, you might find that the colours create effects which are off-putting. The image on the right was created from an image which has had most of the colour removed.

If you are looking for the glasses...
