Call for papers

As part of the 2012 International Conference on Principles and Practice of Constraint Programming, we are inviting PhD students to apply for the Doctoral Programme (DP). The DP is an opportunity for current PhD students to meet each other as well as researchers in the field.

Participation in the Doctoral Programme will involve:

Presentation of the student work via both talk and poster.
Discussions with a mentor with similar research interests.
Entry to the CP 2012 conference.

Additionally, applicants to the 2012 DP may choose to join a Training Program Committee (TPC). Members of the TPC, which is not restricted to only DP participants, will take part to a training review process on the DP papers. The process will follow the same rules as a usual conference, but the reviews will be independent from the DP reviews and will have no impact on the final acceptance decision. For details, see the dedicated section below and the TPC tab. We strongly encourage students submitting papers to the DP to also submit their papers to the TPC, and to participate in the TPC.

Eligibility and Applications

The program is open to all PhD students involved in Constraint Programming or related fields at any level. Applicants are required to submit a short paper (no more than 6 pages) in the Springer LNCS Style and the author list should specify who is the student and who is/are the supervisor/s.

Submissions are required to be in either PostScript or PDF format. Papers should be submitted at: https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=cpdp12

The submission deadline is 15 June 2012.

The paper should contain original unpublished work which is at least in part the work of the student. It can either be completed or in progress. The papers will be available on the conference webpage after the conference.

Students with full papers accepted in the CP conference do not need to submit a paper to the Doctoral Programme. Instead, such students should email both DP chairs at cpdp12@gmail.com, expressing their interest. This email should also include the paper title, abstract and author list.

All students applying for the Doctoral Programme need their supervisor/s to send a letter of recommendation to cpdp12@gmail.com. The email should detail:

the student's area of work.
the supervisor's support of the student's application.
the expected completion date for the student.
the reason for wanting to attend the doctoral program.
whether or not the student has been to the doctoral program and/or received financial assistance previously and how many times.

Training Program Committee

A Training Program Committee (TPC) will be organised for papers submitted to the DP. The TPC will be composed of Ph.D students, and will be supervised by senior researchers of the CP community. The objective of the TPC is to train students to the reviewing process (using EasyChair) and to work in PCs. If possible, a physical TPC meeting will be organised during CPAIOR. The TPC will be opened to all Ph.D students involved in CP or in related fields. It is not necessary to apply for the DP to participate in the TPC. Students applying for the DP are strongly encouraged to participate in the TPC and also to submit their paper to the TPC.

Financial Support

There are funds available to support students by providing accommodation and free conference registration. If there are insufficient funds to provide this for all DP participants, preference will be given to students who have not previously participated in the CP Doctoral Programme.
