University of Oxford top for Computer Science in the World for seventh year running

The University of Oxford has topped the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject for Computer Science for the seventh consecutive year, in their newly released subject tables. 

The Computer Science subject table uses the same trusted and rigorous performance indicators as the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, but the methodology has been recalibrated to suit the discipline. 

The departmentmaintains its leading position overall and achieves the highest teaching score (99.2/100). We also remain ranked as the top UK institution for Computer Science, a position we have held for 9 years running (since 2017 when the Computer Science subject was introduced).

I am delighted that we have been ranked 1st for the 7th time in a row. I feel very lucky to be part of this department – with our amazing students, faculty, and staff. It is lovely to also have this external recognition, as we enter the new academic year. Thanks to our students for playing such a key role in the success of our department. This comprehensive assessment ranks 1,122 institutions from 83 countries and territories. The table is based on 18 rigorous performance indicators, which have been calibrated to assess university performance in computing and digital technologies. These World University Rankings by Subject reflect excellence in research and education worldwide.

The University of Oxford as an institution also topped the Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings for the ninth consecutive year, breaking the record for holding this spot (https://www.timeshighereducation.com/news/world-university-rankings-2025-results-announced)
