Oxford Computer Science students take second place in UKIEPC

Posted:

An Oxford team has taken second place in the United Kingdom and Ireland Programming Contest (UKIEPC), part of the International Collegiate Programming Contest series.

The UKIEPC took place last Saturday, with 250 teams from 29 British and Irish universities participating.

One of our Oxford Computer Science teams solved 11 out of 12 problems which scored them second place after a nail-biting finish. The team missed the top spot by a very slim margin of just three minutes. Our team solved 11 problems in 960 minutes, which is a great achievement; the winning spot was taken by a team from the University of Cambridge after solving the same number of problems in just three minutes less.

Our team that took second place includes:

  • Ip Tsz Oi (Merton, 3rd year M&CS)
  • Masahito Shinokawa (St Hugh's, 4th year M&CS)
  • Thien Udomsrirungruang (Keble, 4th year CS)

Eleven Oxford teams participated, and another of which took seventh place after solving 10 problems:

  • Zhiyi Luo (St Anne's, 2nd year M&CS)
  • Hugo Dominguez Santana (St Hugh's, 2nd year M&CS)
  • Shangtong Wu (Oriel, 1st year M&CS)

The final standings are available at http://ukiepc.info/2024/

The top Oxford teams will now take part in the Northwestern European Regional Contest in the Netherlands in November, where they will be fighting for a chance to participate in the World Finals in 2025.
