Professor Wooldridge awarded Schmidt Sciences AI2050 Senior Fellowship
Posted: 11th December 2024
Professor Michael Wooldridge has been awarded a Schmidt Sciences AI2050 Senior Fellowship, enabling him to advance his research into the foundations of multi-agent systems using large language model technology.
Multi-agent systems involve AI systems interacting with one another. Although multi-agent systems have been studied for decades, take-up of the technology has been limited to niche applications. The field has been rejuvenated by the arrival of Large Language Models – powerful, general-purpose AI systems – which has led to a rush of applications. But many of these are not informed by the decades of previous research on multi-agent systems. Through his work, Professor Wooldridge intends to bring the power of Large Language Models to agents, with a view to rethinking the foundations of the multi-agent systems field.
The AI2050 Senior Fellowship is a huge honour and a fantastic opportunity. I’m proud to be joining such a distinguished group of Senior Fellows, and very excited about the possibility of going back to the very foundations of multi-agent systems, and thinking about what that means in a world with powerful general purpose AI at our disposal. Professor Wooldridge
