An Insider's View of Model-Based Drug Development
- 14:00 20th June 2014 ( week 8, Trinity Term 2014 )Mathematical Institute, Room L6
Mark is a mathematician by background, having obtained his Batchelor's and PhD in mathematics from the University of Bath but has now worked in the pharmaceutical industry for over ten years, a period when its use of mathematical modelling has gone from being considered a black art to companies now claiming that they practice "model-based drug development", although they don't. Nevertheless, mathematical modelling of the problems encountered in drug discovery and development has proven to be very useful, sometimes critical, and is now an integral part of any drug development project. Mark will give an overview of the types of problems and models applied, from the earliest consideration of a potential drug target through to the pivotal clinical trials, and then focus on a couple of key areas where proper mathematical analyses are lacking.
