Cyber Security - Lessons from the aviation industry
- 13:00 17th May 2022 ( Trinity Term 2022 )LTA - Wolfson building Oxford - Also live streamed
The aviation industry used to have one of the highest fatality rates of any industry, of which over 70% were caused by human factors which could have been avoided. A huge reform was done to manage human risk and change organisational behaviours. Within a span of a few years, accidents in the industry dropped by 150%.
This presentation will apply decades of knowledge in human factors that have been successfully implemented in the aviation industry to reduce fatalities into a corporate environment to improve your organisation's security culture. The methodology has proven to be so successful in instilling behavioural changes, many other organizations such as the NAVY and medical professions have also adopted the methodology.
We will look at:
-The step by step methodology in creating a lasting behavioral change: lessons from aviation
- The psychology of how to create and implement successful teams in the work place to strengthen your security posture
- Dissecting your security culture by understanding how problems arise, looking at whether issues are skills based, perceptual or organisational
- How to create a non-punitive and positive security reporting culture.
Humans are not the weakest links but the strongest assets and defence for an organisation's security; it is our duty as security leaders to enable our teams to be the strongest line of defence.
